You’ve probably heard of tabletop gaming, but what about tabletop gaming shows? Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, Warhammer and many more have provided countless hours of imaginative, engaging group storytelling between friends throughout the years. Recently, a new type of show has cropped up that seeks to bring that magic outside of the game room to a wider audience—the new genre of tabletop gaming shows!

Much like video game let’s plays, tabletop gaming shows grew out of a desire to make a private activity—in this case playing tabletop games with a group of friends—into consumable, episodic stories. While it might seem farfetched, tabletop gaming shows have certainly found their audience, with shows like voice actor Matthew Mercer’s Critical Role and the McElroy brothers’  podcast The Adventure Zone gaining widespread popularity.

Tabletop gaming is a uniquely special way to craft a story with your friends, and shows like these are bringing that magic to a growing fan community. Here are a few excellent examples of this blooming genre!
